“Residents face long-term damage to their health and well-being. Contamination of soil and groundwater could have generational impacts,” Abbas Araghchi wrote on the social media platform X.
He also called for accountability, urging punishment of Israel “for its war crimes.”
According to reports, the remarks come amid ongoing hostilities following joint US-Israeli attacks on Iran that began on Feb. 28. The escalation has reportedly resulted in around 1,300 deaths, including the country’s then-Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Reports indicate that Iran has retaliated with drone and missile strikes targeting Israel, as well as Jordan, Iraq, and several Gulf states hosting US military installations.
